RE: E-DRUG: The terms compliance and patient

Thanks, Wilbert, for re-inserting the very interesting message from Lucas
Pinxten and the story from Malawi of substituting Asperin (Aspirin?) for
chloroquine. It is a nice complementary paper to the eBMJ issue of 18 Sep
which focused on involvement of 'patients' in health care provision, which
is found, I think, at

http://www.bmj.com/content/vol319/issue7212/

One reason I found the eBMJ and this edrug discussion interesting is that
it reflects the wider angst amongst those involved in 'participatory
development' -- when those who step in as 'neutral facilitators' often feel
really irritated if the people whose discussions they have been
facilitating don't come up with the answers towards which they are being
led by the facilitators. Health programmes just seem at one end of the
spectrum in this. There is a wide gulf between those who see health as a
societal issue and those involved in the services. Perhaps this kind of
thinking will help bridge the gap.

I have converted the majority of the papers of this eBMJ issue to Word 97
format so I can read at leisure. If it isn't breaking any copyright laws
(please advise) for those with limited access to web pages I could send
these on by email to those who would want a glance. The zipped package
takes up 97k. In order to conserve on bandwidth, I will wait till the end
of the week and send one mailing to all who reply to my email address below
(i.e. please don't send replies to the edrug list!).

[people without Internet access and only email still can retrieve Internet
pages by using the GETWEB system. But obviously your offer is making it
easier for all with only email, although legally you are probably breaking
some rules...

Individual E-druggers who want to have the eBMJ table of contents emailed
to them every week, can subscribe to this at:
