2006 Global Development Awards and Medals Competition
-----------------------------------------------------

Researchers from your organization have made exciting and promising contributions to research on health issues which merit more exposure. I am writing to you therefore to encourage your members to submit their papers and/or proposals to our 2006 Global Development Awards and Medals Competition [*]. Held annually by the Global Development Network, it is the largest international competition on development research, open only to researchers from developing and transition economies. For more details on the competition please visit
http://www.gdnet.org/.

Finalists are invited to present their papers at our next annual conference to be held in Beijing, January 2007. The winner of the Award for Outstanding Research receives a cash prize of $50,000 and winners in the medals competition receive cash prizes worth $10,000. Successful researchers also receive considerable exposure in the press and enhanced recognition among peers in their field. Winning a prize increases prospects of publication and access to other sources of funding.

I urge you to encourage applications from young, talented researchers at your organization.
