A Ministry for Women's Affairs

Dear Contributors,
The new government in Ghana has proposed the establishment of a Min-
istry for Women's Affairs with the minister elevated to cabinet posi-
tion. Instantly one thought it was a good idea. However many women's
advocates in Ghana have kicked against the idea in very strong terms.
They argue that in many places where women's ministries have been set
up, they have not helped.
I would like to know from contributors various experiences and
whether or not these women's groups in Ghana will not live to regret
their current stand?
