Africa, some sobering numbers (13)
----------------------------------
Dear Dr King,
Thank you for the references.
In your No. (6) a couple of days ago, you said:
Malthus was very busy in Rwanda, which the Belgians had long con-
sidered trapped, he is also very busy in Malawi.
I took this to be a metaphor.
Therefore, I replied with a metaphor: But is it indeed Malthus or
Marx who is very busy in Rwanda and Malawi -- or both? in (8).
Now, in (11), you say:
I have never thought about Marx in Rwanda. Do explain.
Did you not mean a metaphor in (6) above? If it was one, my response
should be self-explanatory, no? If Malthus is busy in many places, so
is Marx, I would humbly contend. So, do not forget using historical
and dialectical materialism in Rwanda (or elsewhere) when looking for
the roots of the entrapment you contend Africa is in or at the verge
of.
In continued collegial dissent,
Claudio Schuftan
