CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

Health Research for Development: Promoting an African Perspective for
the New Millenium

Concerns - Issues - Approaches

19-23 September, 1999
Harare, Zimbabwe

CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES

- To identify the priority health issues in Africa and how they
  relate to a global health research agenda.
- To develop more effective health research partnerships in the
  Africa Region with WHO/AFRO and other agencies.
- To identify essential resources to support health research for
  development.
- To consider the role of Essential National Health Research in
  Development and Community Participation at country level.
- To explore recent developments in health, research for development
  and
- To consider the impact of the changes in health care brought about
  by health system reforms.

To meet these objectives, the programme will include
- Invited plenary speakers
- Submitted paper presentations
- Poster presentations

CONFERENCE FORMAT

The Conference is designed to maximise opportunities for interaction
among participants around the objectives. Whenever possible presenta-
tions will be organised into sessions with common themes to enhance
discussion. Dedicated time will be given to both oral and poster
presentations within the schedule.

CONFERENCE PRESENTATIONS

Abstracts are sought for presentations, which address the conference
themes, and will be selected by the Scientific Advisory committee for
poster or oral presentation. Submitters may indicate their prefer-
ence, but final decisions regarding acceptance of abstracts and of
the presentation format will be made by the Program Planning Commit-
tee.

Poster Session Presentations

Presenters will display their work graphically. Posters will be on
display all day, but presenters must be available to discuss their
work and answer questions during specified times. Detailed guidelines
will be provided after the poster is accepted.

Note: all presenters are required to cover their own expenses to at-
tend the conference, and to pay the registration fee

Abstracts may be in English or French. The entire abstract, including
all submissions must be received by 1 July 1999. Faxes and e-mails
are acceptable.
