AIDS Patients in Zambia Face Stark Choices (2)
----------------------------------------------
It is a chilling story of reality facing many who have AIDS in
Developing Countries. I think there is a need to invest more in
supporting those with HIV/AIDS. Of late more emphasis has been
placed on Voluntary Counselling and Testing. There is one ques-
tion that I have always been asking the people dealing with VCT.
"How do you support the people that you have encouraged to test?"
Often those who have taken the test are left to suffer emotional
and social consequences.
It is OK to know the statistics of HIV/AIDS. But I think these
VCT programmes need to do more. I feel that promotion of VCT
should go hand in hand with provision of further supportive care
including antiretrovirals, further counselling, etc.
