Conference: Access to Care and Treatment for Women, Children and Families
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

26 - 29 May 2003
Khartoum, Sudan

The Society for Women and AIDS in Africa (SWAA) is pleased to an-
nounce its IXth International Conference: Access to Care and Treat-
ment for Women, Children and Families in Africa.

Since 1989, SWAA has successfully organized eight pan-African confer-
ences in venues from Harare to Kampala. These meetings bring together
advocates, practitioners, scientists, community groups and People
Living With HIV/AIDS from across Africa and around the world.

This conference will explore and evaluate existing paradigms for
treatment and care and showcase new intervention strategies and re-
search methodologies. Access to Care and Treatment will provide a fo-
rum to share best practices, community challenges, scientific infor-
mation and to build capacity for the future. This is an opportunity
to hear what women in Africa have to say and to learn from their ex-
perience and knowledge.

As recently codified at the XIVth International AIDS conference in
Barcelona, Spain, women and children are the most vulnerable to the
impact of HIV/AIDS. Access to Care and Treatment provides a unique
and important occasion to strengthen the community hardest hit by the
pandemic.

Prominent figures in the field, both regional and international, have
been invited as guest speakers.

Created in 1988, SWAA is a pioneering Pan African non-profit, non-
governmental organization whose mission is to advocate on behalf of
women, children and families in the fight against HIV/AIDS. SWAA mo-
bilizes communities by strengthening capacity to prevent, control and
mitigate the impact of the epidemic. The institutional vision is a
world free of HIV/AIDS, where African women and children are empow-
ered to claim equal rights, access to health care, education, and
economic and socio-cultural opportunities.

The organization's interregional office is based in Dakar, Senegal,
and serves as the headquarters for thirty-seven country offices
throughout Africa.
