Re: Pacific
Since 1995 I have been working both with Consumers International Re-
gional Office for Asia and the Pacific (CIROAP) and with WPRO both
through workshops and constant communciations to try to address some
of the identified problems in the Pacific Region. One big one is
problems with communication. Our work has been mainly with people in-
volved in the essential drugs sector but we have linked - necessarily
- with other health disciplines. Our communication to date has had
to be almost exclusively by fax. To get email available and working
is the highest thing on the agenda but it is not easy. Where email
does exist, in a few Pacific Island Nations, it is unreliable, hard
for people to access e.g. only by permission, once a week on Mondays,
etc. and at the moment not a viable option but it is being worked on.
At this stage Prof. Dzulkifli Abdul Razak <dzul@usm.my> has kindly
offered to relay essential drugs info around our Pacific contacts but
without email it is extremely tedious and expensive.
Dr Balasubramaniam and Shila Rani Kaur at <ciroap@pc.jaring.my> could
well be able to help you with a network for Asia and the Caribbean.
