Sonke Gender Justice, MenEngage Africa, and the Center of Expertise in Women's Health & Empowerment at the University of California Global Health Institute have joined together to offer an intensive, interdisciplinary course in Gaborone, Botswana, in September 2016. The course is entitled, "Women's Health, Empowerment and Masculinities: Policy Advocacy Training."
Through case studies and exercises, participants will learn how to build women's empowerment and gender norms transformation into health policy advocacy activities to maximize their effectiveness. The course duration is two weeks, 9 AM to 5 PM, including Saturdays.
The course dates are: September 1st to 14th, 2016.
Expected participants: Health and development NGO staff, graduate students, junior faculty members, lawyers, gender activists, health professionals and government officials.
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to: * Describe various aspects of women's health, masculinities, and gender disparities in society; * Explain and incorporate empowerment theories (including gender theory) into their work: * Design, implement and evaluate policy advocacy strategies; and * Develop and present an advocacy campaign incorporating women's health, masculinities, and empowerment.
Faculty: The course faculty will include prominent gender theorists and activists, program development practitioners, social justice activists, policy experts and academics.
Criteria: Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree, be fluent in English, and have prior experience in health/gender programmes or policies.
Spaces are limited! Cost is $599 including all course materials, instructors, lodging, food, and excursions. Travel is not included. Deadline to apply is August 10, 2016.
