Dear Afro-nets
You are warmly invited to participate in the 1016 Global Health Symposium to be held at Durham University on March 22nd. The theme of the symposium is 'Emerging threats and challenges in global health'. Details are below:
Global Health Symposium - "Emerging threats and challenges in global health"
22nd March 2016, 10:00 to 17:00, Department of Earth Sciences, Durham University
The North-east Global Health Network, hosted by Durham University Global Health Special Interest Group and the Wolfson Institute for Health and Wellbeing is holding a day-long symposium on the theme of "Emerging threats and challenges in global health" on Tuesday 22nd March at Durham University, UK
Successful attainment of the third sustainable development goal "To ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages" by 2030 will require addressing a number of important emerging challenges, some of which threaten major global health advances made over recent years, for example: weak health systems and lack of financial/human resources, emerging infectious diseases (e.g. Ebola, Sika) and other 'diseases of poverty', the growing burden of chronic/non-communicable diseases, antimicrobial drug resistance, rapid/unplanned urbanisation, and climate change.
We invite oral and poster presentations that interrogate and/or address these - or other - global health challenges as we enter the post-2015 era. We particularly welcome submissions from postgraduate students and early-career researchers. Please complete the online registration form<https://www.dur.ac.uk/wolfson.institute/events/ghsymposium/> confirming your attendance including 200-word abstract of your poster or proposed presentation. We are also pleased to announce that the four best postgraduate submissions will be awarded a travel bursary of up to £50 to attend the meeting.
There is no charge to attend meeting, which will be catered in terms of lunch and refreshments. Spaces are limited, however, so please submit your registration form<https://www.dur.ac.uk/wolfson.institute/events/ghsymposium/> as soon as possible.
Start time: 10am
Lunch: 1pm (approx) with posters
Wrap up and departure: 5pm
The presented material will consist of a mix of invited keynote presentations, abstracted presentations and posters. There will be at least one panel discussion. Depending on interest, there may be a symposium dinner in the evening. Please indicate on the registration form if you would like to attend an evening meal on the basis self-payment.
We would like to webcast the symposium - please indicate on your registration form that you would would be willing in principle, to take part in the webcast. By ticking this box you will not be committing to taking part at this stage - we are simply gathering information on the level of interest.
