RESPONSE TO "A SMALL WORD OF CAUTION"
Oh dear, what a way to give a dog a bad name in order to hang it!!!
Mannasseh Phiri's experience: A VERY VERY OLD STORY - if true - cer-
tainly is worrisome and reprehensible. But what are the real inten-
tions to the note of caution: Sabotage? Blackmail? or mere prankish-
ness?
An e-mail directory of physician and non-physician professionals in
Africa should obviously be an exciting African-driven international
project. The fact that the concept originates from a Nigerian insti-
tution with credible and distinguished medical and non-medical pro-
fessionals should not immediately suggest that it is a scam-inducing
project - no matter the unverifiable experience of an individual
whose motive may be questionable.
As indicated in an earlier important notice, our institution, CHPSS,
Lagos, Nigeria, is willing to collaborate with persons and or insti-
tutions in and out of Africa with additional ideas regarding the pro-
tection of the directory from flagrant commercial abuse and/or scams.
This not withstanding, one hastens to advice that the best protection
from been drawn into a scam of the nature described by Mannesseh
Phiri is SELF DISCIPLINE AND LESS GREED rather than an unwholesome
hesitation to file e-mail and contact address in a professionally-
centred directory.
But then Mannasseh Phiri and his/her likes are free to choose!
