Educational CD-ROMs
-------------------

[This message is being passed on to AFRO-NETS subscribers for com-
ments directly to Catherine Barnes <c.barnes@wellcome.ac.uk> DN Mod.]

My organisation, a medical charity, produces computer-based educa-
tional materials covering tropical and international health, and we
are preparing to distribute a range of these in early 1998.

I am currently trying to establish a fair pricing structure for these
materials, and I wonder if you, or one of your colleagues, could help
me. The idea is that we sell the materials at full commercial rates
in the developed world to subsidise their provision in developing
countries.

We will be selling a separate CD for each disease that we cover. For
example, there will be one on malaria which will contain 12 interac-
tive tutorials (each taking about an hour to run through the first
time) covering various aspects of malaria, along with a searchable
collection of about 300 related images. There is a series of 10 ti-
tles planned for the next year, to be released in batches, and there
will be a discount for buying the whole series.

Can you give me any idea how much your institution/department could
afford to spend for each disease-focused CD-ROM?

Please feel free to pass any of this on to colleagues if you want
their opinion.

Thank you very much for your help.
