AFRO-NETS> Epidemiology course on the Internet (15)

Epidemiology course on the Internet (15)
----------------------------------------

Friends,

We now have the front page, and 4 lectures complete for the course
titled 'Epidemiology, the Internet and Global Health'. The lectures
include the introduction, the epidemiologic transition, monitoring
disease, and childhood diabetes... We have been experimenting with
various formats. We will start out the lecture with a discussion by
the authors of the lecture of who they are, and why they get excited
about this particular area. The course will be most interesting as it
will be hypertext within the lecture series, thus, if one reads ini-
tially about the internet, then you can jump to the internet lecture
if the medical students want. In addition, there will be plenty of
opportunity to jump out of the class to other things on the internet.
We are going to encourage the students to add links as they are
learning.

We will be developing a system for the students to communicate with
each other as well, and hopefully globally collect data on the medi-
cal students for demonstration purposes. It is critical to obtain the
students attention.

Nan Tajima from Jikei University in Tokyo plans to use the super
course next year...

Benjamin, Akira, and Rimei are putting up the lectures as we speak,
and these should be available early next week.

We hope to have a list server set up so you will not have to scroll
through the many people who have expressed an interest...

Raul Mercer from Argentina will help to develop lectures and get
these lectures translated into Spanish... once we complete the first 4
lectures, then we will plan for translation.

We very much want comments... good and bad next week on this super-
course, as we want the world to use it once we roll it out...

Ron
