Evaluating educational interventions for HIV prevention in Southern Africa
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear All,

Many thanks for your input to our project, evaluating educational in-
terventions for HIV prevention in southern Africa. We now have a net-
work of over 200 people who have given us support on this project in
a number of ways, including feedback and advice on various aspects of
the project, putting me in touch with others in this field, and ex-
pressions of interest in both the workshops we are running and the
systematic review we have planned. Below is brief summary of where we
are up to.

Kind regards,
Ruth Cox

Project Update: March 2001

Many thanks to all of you who have sent your feedback to us about the
project, advertised our workshops and passed on information and con-
tacts. We couldn't run the project without your help.

Our Website

Our website is now up and running and includes the application proc-
ess for our workshops. Many thanks for your patience with this. We
hope to include further information about both the workshops and our
review, as they develop.

Please do pay it a visit. It can be found at:
http://hivsa.ioe.ac.uk/hivsa

The workshops

Taking into account advice from many of you we have timed the work-
shops later in the year than originally planned, to allow more scope
for people to attend. The dates will now fall in May, July and Sep-
tember (see our website for details).

The application forms are now available on the website. If you want
to attend please do register your interest via the website and make
sure that you fill out the application form by the deadline of April
2nd.

Arrangements for the workshops are continuing daily. The detail of
the workshop content is being developed at the moment, in response to
feedback we have received from many of you. We are still keen to hear
from anyone who may be involved in similar training, either in HIV
prevention or in evidence-based practice.

The Review

We are at the beginning stages of our systematic review of evidence
of effectiveness and appropriateness of educational interventions for
HIV prevention in southern Africa, which we plan to complete by the
end of the year. Again, we are still keen to hear from anyone, par-
ticularly in southern Africa, involved in systematic reviews in the
area of HIV prevention.
