FDA Approval of AIDS Drugs - 2 items (2)
----------------------------------------

Dear Colleagues

This is not a serious matter if WHO approval is going to happen
this week. But I sense that WHO approval may be months away, if
not longer.

Or is there something else going on that we should be concerned
about. I am worried by the bureaucratic use of regulation to
slow down important relief and development interventions... in-
cluding the timely disbursement of funds.

I don't want to advocate for global use of FDA (US) standards of
drug efficacy... but it would seem in a crisis situation that
any one of several of the well respected drug standards could be
used. Or is something else going on?

Sincerely,

FDA Approval of AIDS Drugs - 2 items (4)
----------------------------------------

How much time FDA took to approve these drugs compared to WHO?
The manufacturer should have submitted for approval from WHO si-
multaneously. If it is a crisis, there is always solution to bu-
reaucratic steps provided international community has the will
to do; and WHO can not avoid its responsibility when the 3 by 5
program is already behind the target.

Let us keep the pressure up.
