Fifth EDCTP Forum (12-14 October 2009): One World, One Partnership
FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT
The Fifth EDCTP Forum will take place in Arusha, Tanzania from 12 to 14
October 2009. The theme of the Forum is Fighting HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria: One World, One Partnership, and it will focus on the outcome and progress of EDCTP funding efforts in research and capacity strengthening activities in sub-Saharan Africa. It will be an important platform for everyone involved in research on the main three poverty related diseases (HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis) to establish or reinforce cooperation and synergy.
The programme
The forum programme will involve speakers from both the scientific and the political realm, and focus on advances and agenda setting for clinical research on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. The programme will contain a mix of the following:
* Keynote addresses by invited speakers
* Plenary and parallel sessions
* Roundtable discussions
* Oral presentations of EDCTP funded projects on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria in Africa
* Electronic posters sessions.
The venue
Ngurdoto Mountain Lodge, located in Arusha, Tanzania. Forum participants can stay at the hotel. Additionally, a list of alternative accommodation will be made available.
Participating in the Fifth EDCTP Forum
EDCTP will invite prominent keynote speakers for the plenary and parallel sessions. In addition, abstracts will be invited for oral and poster presentations, preferably on EDCTP funded projects. EDCTP will publish a call for abstracts on its website soon and will circulate the information through a number of channels. A limited number of persons from sub-Saharan African working on EDCTP funded projects will be awarded bursaries. Details on how to submit an abstract and to apply for a bursary will be published together with the call for abstracts.
Forum updates and website
In the coming months, EDCTP will launch and maintain the Fifth EDCTP Forum website. This website will give regular updates on the programme and on opportunities to join the Forum. EDCTP will use various channels to announce the launch of this website and other updates on the Fifth EDCTP Forum, but for now please check the EDCTP website http://www.edctp.org regularly for any updates.
