Ghana lost 12,365 Health Professionals 1993-2002 (17)
-----------------------------------------------------
I am moved by this discussion on 'freeling' health profession-
als. It is obvious to all those who had opportunities to work in
developed countries that it is not only the money and material
gains that benefit the health officers. There is a lot more
gained in terms of patient care and job satisfaction.
Some of the issues that I know caused many Tanzanian Health pro-
fessionals to migrate in the early to late 1990s was corruption
and nepotism at the ministerial level. Posting to work stations
depended much on 'know who or bribe who'.
Post graduate training also was so frustrating that the 'hang on
motto' was easily ruined out and the person off she/he goes.
My advice to the Ghanaian friends: - please interview the freed
health personnel and find out the individual reasons caused them
to migrate. Then look for solutions based on the responses.
