AFRO-NETS> Health Sector Reform and Sustainable Financing (5)

Health Sector Reform and Sustainable Financing (5)
--------------------------------------------------

In as much as I agree that this issue has been greatly dominated by
economists and social scientists, I wish to state that nothing stops
other professionals from expressing their views, particularly those of
us in the medical practice and health related fields.

This issue at stake is being addressed by the "New Public Health", an-
other health sector reform concept, which seeks to encourage the prac-
titioner to consider the individual needing and demanding health care
in his or her totality, the socio-economic status inclusive. It is not
enough to want or need health care service, but it is much more impor-
tant to have the necessary resources to demand for care.

Therefore, it is a necessity now more than ever before, that pertinent
health issues such as reforms and sustainable financing be discussed by
all relevant professionals: economists, sociologists, environmental-
ists, 'medics' and 'non-medics' alike. After all, variety is the spice
of life.
