The Directorate of Learning Systems at the African Medical and
Research Foundation (AMREF), Nairobi, Kenya is pleased to an-
nounce the 3rd Edition of its short course: "Health System Re-
search" which will run from 6th - 24th June 2005 at the AMREF
International Training Centre in Nairobi, Kenya.
This course provides a practical introduction to the theory,
practice and methodologies required for conducting research in
the health sector. It also provides participants with a basic
understanding of the concepts and techniques in research, inter-
pretation and dissemination of research findings as well as use
of the results.
The course is relevant for those with experience in health and
health related fields including mid-level and frontline manag-
ers, decision-makers and programme planners, project staff, edu-
cationists and trainers who are involved developing and mapping
health development programs. Applications are welcome from
health professionals and others with an interest in health pro-
gramming who want to upgrade their research skills.
The course content includes: Introduction to health systems re-
search, defining the research problem, research methodology,
data collection, management and analysis using SPSS, research
work plan, administration and monitoring of budgets, reporting
and dissemination of findings. Field data collection practical
and analysis using SPSS computer software form a core component
of the training programme.
Course fee: US Dollars 960.-- The fee includes all training ma-
terials, field costs and lunches but excludes accommodation and
travel. The fee must be paid before admission.
Few scholarships are also available.
