Health Systems Trusts looks at Traditional Healers
--------------------------------------------------
HST 'Update', issue No 37 "Traditional Healers"
Part of the reform of the South African health system involves the of-
ficial recognition of traditional healers as health care providers and
their incorporation into the formal health sector. This is a complex
process which involves the creation of a uniform system of registration
of all traditional healers, the establishment of one professional um-
brella body for regulation of the traditional healers and the registra-
tion and control of traditional medicines.
'Update' looks at these issues this month, as well as commenting on how
traditional healers and allopathic health professionals will function
together. Interviews with traditional healers and examples of collabo-
ration between traditional healers and western health services are pre-
sented.
