Healthcare Technology Management Workshop (2)
---------------------------------------------
Dear AFRO-Netters,
In fact, I am not the author of the message sent out by somebody un-
der my name, as actually I was not the author of the first one of 14
April on the same subject. Somebody, I am sure with the best inten-
tions but without consulting with the actual organizers and focal
points, is trying to spread out the information about the important
activity organized by WHO to the widest audience possible. Thank you,
the unknown author.
[The message was sent to us by H. Halbwachs from GTZ for distribution via AFRO-NETS. D.N. Mod.]
Nevertheless, I am pleased to confirm that the Health Care Technology
Management Workshop is taking place on 8-13 November at the Hotel Le
Vendome at Sea Point in Cape Town, South Africa.
Most of the information contained in the message is correct. However,
there are few inaccuracies.
First, the sponsors part of the info should read as following:
Organized by the World Health Organization (as one organization and
not separately by WHO and WHO/AFRO),
African Federation for Technology in Healthcare (AFTH),
American College of Clinical Engineering (ACCE),
Department of Health of South Africa, and South African Medical Re-
search Council (MRC), in association with the International Federa-
tion for Medical and Biological Engineering (IFMBE), and Interna-
tional Federation of Hospital Engineering (IFHE), and co-sponsored by
the Association for Appropriate Technologies (FAKT),
European Union (EU),
Finnish International Development Agency (FINNIDA),
German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ),
Luxembourg Development Cooperation Agency (LUX-DEVELOPMENT),
Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU), and the World Bank.
Second is the venue, which I have corrected above.
The third, and the most important, is the fact that all organizing
and sponsoring agencies listed above have already identified partici-
pants to whom their sponsorship goes. Thus only those who have firmly
confirmed external sponsorship should express their interest at this
stage. Then such applications will be considered by WHO and the South
African Medical Research Council which is the actual local host for
the Workshop on the basis that the number of places at the Workshop
is limited.
And finally, Hans Halbwachs is no longer the GTZ focal point for the
Workshop, and is now busy with another assignment. So please don't
overload his mailbox with the messages related to the Workshop. All
enquiries in this matter should be sent either to me, or to:
Dr Jean-Baptiste Tapko
Regional Advisor for Clinical and Laboratory Technology, WHO/AFRO,
Harare / Zimbabwe
mailto:tapkoj@whoafr.org
and/or
Dr Peter Heimann
Head, WHO Collaborating Centre for Essential Health Technologies
Medical Research Council
Cape Town, South Africa
mailto:peter.heimann@mrc.ac.za
I hope this clarifies the matter.
With best regards,
Andrei Issakov
