HIV/AIDS Networking Guide. 47pp. Toronto: ICASO

Dear colleagues,

Please note that the above publication is available online at:
http://www.icaso.org

The guide is a comprehensive resource for individuals and organisa-
tions who wish to build, strengthen or sustain a network.

The guide came about after several discussions among International
Council of AIDS Service Organizations (ICASO) members on how best to
respond to the many information requests on networking issues. ICASO
observed that while literature on networking in general is available,
there is little on HIV/AIDS networking.

The guide explains why people network and the steps that should be
taken to build a strong and viable network. It tackles some of the
problems that are common in running both formal and informal net-
works.

The first section of the guide explains key terminology in HIV/AIDS
networking and briefly explains the characteristics and nature of
networks, their benefits and the potential advantages for people liv-
ing with HIV/AIDS.

The second focuses on details of building a network with emphasis on
the need for planning, while the third section discusses how to make
network viable and sustainable.

The forth section deals with issues that may render a network useful
or useless. It also focuses on how to mobilize resources as well as
the possible electronic to networking.

The fifth deals with issues of governance while the last provides ex-
periences gained from other networks. A list of the major interna-
tional HIV/AIDS related networks is provided as an appendix.
