HIV testing without treatment? (2)
----------------------------------
Perhaps the positive attitude accompanied by one testing negative
should be harnessed in order to give more hope to our vulnerable
youth. Counselling and then testing our students before they leave
school (when the prevalence may still be low) may give them a chance
to know they are negative and give them confidence to strive to re-
main negative as they go into the world. Working with students maybe
logistically much easier than targeting the youth in the communities
where there is no organised forum.
Apart from the cost of counselling and testing there would be nothing
unusual in doing medical checkups among students as this is routinely
a requirement in many schools to have medical certificate but perhaps
ways should be devised to help and protect the identities of those
found positive. What would be the repercussions of such a strategy?
