Interesting conference on health in Africa Unique?(2)

I think not. "Same old story." A conference facility, hotels etc and
the providers of related services in CHICAGO will reap the benefits of
this conference on the economic problems in AFRICA. 'Tied aid' again in
a different guise.
Why should all the "people from Africa who are engaged in grass roots
projects on the African continent" have to go to the US in order to be
heard? Couldn't many more be heard if those who need to hear the mes-
sage were transported to Africa (economy class) to be shaken out of
their comfort zone and confronted with the grotesque results of decades
of donor imperialism by developed countries and the IMF/World Bank etc?
Conference facilities, not quite up to scratch? Roads, a bit bumpy?
Risk of nasty diseases? Telephone lines-unreliable?
'Listen to Africans in Africa Conference' Now that would be interest-
ing.
