International Day Against Female Genital Mutilation (13)
--------------------------------------------------------

You got a good point there.

I often asked what is the issue here when we discuss about the female
genital mutilation. Is it the medical outcomes? Or the Human right
issue? In the first case, I did a literature review and there isn't
enough evidence out there to support the negative outcome. I mean
there is no study showing an increase in woman morbidity and maternal
mortality than can be attributed to the practice. So I wonder why it
is a major public health issue? This is for what is known as type I
and Type II. And all the early complications found in the literature
are related to the fact that the practice is done in an unclean way.
So once again, what is the problem with female genital mutila-
tion???
