International Day Against Female Genital Mutilation (18)
--------------------------------------------------------
Here is a link to WHO's info on FGM:
http://www.who.int/frh-whd/FGM/index.htm
And if you check out the overview section, there is a chapter on re-
search done including physiological effects and epidemiology. And for
those of you who work in the field, there is a section called "Pro-
grammes to date" which discusses methods attempted, what works and
what doesn't.
And a question to Edward: What religion would that be? In Burkina
Faso where the population is roughly 30% Muslim, 10% Christian and
60% animist, FGM is expected to continue at rates of 70% of the popu-
lation. And I know women of each of these religions who are "circum-
cised". Ghana, I suppose has a larger percentage of Christians, and a
much lower percentage of rural peoples in general. I don't understand
what you are getting at with that.
