Junior African Scientist Training Opportunities
-----------------------------------------------
in Malaria Vector Population Biology
The State University of New York at Buffalo, in collaboration with
International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE), Nai-
robi, Kenya, is pleased to announce the availability of research
training opportunities to sub-Saharan African scientists or junior
university faculty. The NIH-funded training program will support re-
search in:
1) spatial analysis of anopheline species composition and population
dynamics,
2) molecular population genetics, and
3) vector competence.
The positions will be based in trainee's home country under the guid-
ance and supervision of mentors from US and Kenya.
Qualification:
The candidates must hold a M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree and with an appoint-
ment in a university or research institute in a sub-Saharan country.
Candidates interested in spatial analysis are expected to have basic
knowledge in GIS, remote sensing and statistics. Candidates inter-
ested in population genetics should have knowledge in basic molecular
biology and evolutionary genetics. Candidates interested in vector
competence should have experience with cell culture of Plasmodium
falciparum gametocytes.
Application procedures:
The candidates must e-mail or send a 3-5 page research proposal with
a well defined project, budget, budget justification, CV and other
supporting documents from his home institute. The budget will not ex-
