Key Participants for Health Research Workshop sought
----------------------------------------------------

Hello,

I am writing to request your assistance in identifying Nigerian and
African researchers/professionals involved in grassroots/national/
international health issues of Africans.

The organization I work for, the Canadian Institutes of Health Re-
search (CIHR) is taking a lead, through a Global Health Research Ini-
tiative partnership, on the consultative process leading up to the G8
meeting in June where the approval of the Africa Action Plan will
take place. This Plan will define how G8 member countries will meet
the objectives of the New Partnership for Africa's Development
(NEPAD), a report produced for the G8 meeting in Genoa last year.

CIHR, which is Canada's leading agency for health research, seek to
inform the G8 process by providing a recommendation and supporting
background paper on how increased investment in health research con-
tributes to improved health and economic development in Africa. The
partners and the Coalition are seeking additional input through con-
sultative processes that are designed to coordinate the views of the
developing country researcher community, and invite the views of in-
ternational and national research organizations with shared interest
in global health research.

Electronic consultations have occurred and the process is transiting
to a second phase which is a workshop titled "Health Research, NEPAD
and The G8: A Focus on Developing Country Needs". The workshop will
be held in Toronto, Canada from the 18th - 20th of April. There is a
need to speedily and strategically identify a maximum of 2-3 key par-
ticipants for this workshop hence this e-mail. Also of note is the
on-going electronic consultation from March 28 - May 10. Interested
participants could also provide input through the website of the Coa-
lition for Global Health Research - www.cghrc.ca. The NEPAD document
may be found at the following website
http://www.g8.gc.ca/summitafrica-e.asp

To faciliate identifying these participants and their participation,
please spread the word and have such contacts send their name and if
possible their CV to me or to Alita Perry by Wednesday, April 10th.

This is a great opportunity for Africans to participate and influence
decisions about their lives and health. I hope you can help.

Thank you.
