Malaria Research & Training in Solomon Islands
----------------------------------------------
Request for Proposals
A few months ago I posted a message asking for expressions of inter-
est in five different malaria research projects to be funded by the
Solomon Islands Government under a World Bank Loan. I had a lot of
responses from that posting. I am grateful to those of you that re-
sponded. I was not able to answer all the messages and more impor-
tantly was not able to follow-up because the loan process hit a snag.
Now the funding is set and all the specifics agreed to so I am able
to officially invite proposals. The projects themselves have not
changed from what I described in my original posting but the terms
and conditions have been set out in detail.
The actual request for proposals document can be found and downloaded
at:
http://www.who.org.ph/technical/programme/mal.htm
The five areas of research being proposed are:
1. Pregnancy and malaria
2. Malaria and economic development
3. Compliance with treatment
4. Deployment of dipsticks in remote clinics
5. Incentives for the usage and treatment of mosquito nets
The work has the backing of both WHO and the World Bank and is part
of the worldwide Roll Back Malaria initiative. The deadline for pre-
liminary proposals is 15 January, 2000. Please let me know if you have
any questions otherwise please have a look at the RFP.
