Methods and Techniques of Development Planning and Management

The course is especially designed for

* project managers and managerial staff of planning agencies and non-
  governmental organisations responsible for the design, appraisal,
  planning and implementation of development programmes and projects,
  and
* experts and consultants working in project-related advisory, train-
  ing and facilitation functions who wish to enhance their knowledge
  of, and competence in:

* the design of appropriate development interventions aiming at a
  broad impact and sustainable results,
* quality management and respective methods employed to consistently
  plan, effectively implement, monitor and evaluate programme meas-
  ures, and
* change management in terms of facilitation skills and effective
  leadership for guiding teams and co-operating with all relevant role
  players including the direct beneficiaries.

The course will cover the following areas taking into account par-
ticipants' priority interests:

* Design of Development Interventions
* Project / Programme Planning and Implementation Management
* Communication, Facilitation and Leadership

On completion of the course, participants can expect to be able to:
* develop appropriate poverty alleviation strategies considering the
  socio-economic, ecological, political and institutional frame condi-
  tions,
* be able to select and apply acquired methods and techniques for
  management functions according to actual project requirements,
* have improved their social competence and skills with regard to
  team development, capacity building and effective co-operation with
  different role players as well as the facilitation of workshops and
  training events.

Admission Requirements and Administrative Procedures

The course is open to persons concerned with the design, planning and
implementation management of development programmes and projects. Ap-
plicants will normally be expected to have a university degree or
equivalent and should have several years of experience in development
project management. Applications of women candidates are expressly
encouraged.

As the course will be held in English candidates must have a suffi-
cient knowledge of the course language to follow the lectures and to
participate in discussions without difficulties. To make optimum use
of the training, participants are requested to bring along relevant
planning and monitoring documents pertaining to their own project or
organisation.

Familiarity with Windows-based computer applications is desirable.
Participants with e-mail access at their place of work or privately
shall be invited to make use of the post-course support and tutoring
offered for applying skills learnt.

The course fee is DM 10,710.--. This fee covers the cost of tuition,
course materials, meals, accommodation and visits that are part of
the programme.

In addition, a small number of DSE scholarships will be channelled
through the German embassies in selected countries. Participants
holding a DSE invitation are normally expected to pay for domestic
travel in their home country only.
