Dear Colleagues,

If you are among the African Scientists working in the field of Ma-
laria, your experience is greatly valuable to other scientists in Af-
rica. You are therefore kindly requested to send an abstract on the
topic of your interest (see programme below).

It will help organisation of the malaria vaccine session.

Although the organising committee will try its best to secure support
as many scientists as possible, you are encouraged to look for your own
sponsor. This will provide a chance for support for those who could
otherwise not be able to make it to the meeting. Kindly support this
process.

Conference Programme:

Keynote scientific addresses and reviews will be presented in the fol-
lowing focus areas:
- malaria control and its management, including reviews of the current
  status of control programmes in Africa;
- antimalarial drugs and resistance;
- economics of malaria;
- health information systems and surveillance;
- vector biology and control;
- severe malaria and pathogenesis;
- malaria vaccines;
- ethics and research methodology;
- research networks in Africa;
- communications in Africa.

Workshops and discussions groups will be convened to discuss country
and regional issues, or specific scientific areas. The final day will
be devoted to a 'Workshop on Research Training and Capacity Development
in Africa'.

Exhibitions

The organisers welcome the involvement of exhibitors. Options will be
made available to all potential exhibitors of malaria-related products.

All proceedings will be translated into English, French and Portuguese.

African delegates US$ 100
Other delegates US$ 300
Private sector to contact secretariat.

Sponsorship will be available for some participants. A number of awards
specifically for junior African scientists will available by competi-
tion.
