The SVRI
The Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI) is a project
which aims to create a network of experienced and committed re-
searchers, policy makers, activists and donors who will work to-
gether to ensure that the many aspects of sexual violence are
addressed. The objective of SVRI is to promote and disseminate
action-oriented research to reduce and respond to sexual vio-
lence through: Identifying gaps, building capacity, supporting
research, raising awareness and building partnerships.
The SVRI will focus on the sexual abuse and coercion of adult
and adolescent women, child sexual abuse, sexual torture and
sexual violence in war situations, and trafficking in women and
girls for sex. The SVRI is funded by the Global Forum for Health
Research (GFHR) and currently hosted by the World Health Organi-
zation (WHO). For more information about and to join the Sexual

AIMS of SVRI list
The aim of this list is to provide a forum where knowledge, ex-
perience and action about sexual violence can be discussed and
shared. This will be a global discussion and we hope to learn
from people in all regions of the world. We hope that these dis-
cussions will facilitate the formation of new partnerships and
promote discourse among people from different professions about
sexual violence.
Content
The SVRI list is a moderated forum. In addition to sharing in-
formation about the SVRI and its work as well as the work of
others, we will engage in group discussions around specific is-
sues relating to sexual violence research. We hope that most of
these discussions will be initiated by group members. A number
of issues for discussion have already been identified including
- Definitions of sexual violence and - Ethical issues in con-
ducting sexual violence research
We look forward to a series of informative and meaningful dis-
cussions on issues related to sexual violence research. If you
