News on science and technology capacity building in Africa
----------------------------------------------------------
Dear colleagues,
Earlier this week, an international seminar on building science
and technology capacity in Africa took place in London, United
Kingdom. The meeting brought together ministers, policy-makers,
research experts and communications professionals to discuss how
to work more effectively with and for African partners. As
Hilary Benn, the UK's secretary of state for international de-
velopment put it: "Science can help save lives, improve lives
and change the world for the better."
The Science and Development Network (SciDev.Net) has created a
special 'news focus' on the meeting, drawing together news cov-
erage, presentations, background reading and key documents on
the topics discussed.
In his closing remarks to the conference, John Mugabe, executive
secretary of the science and technology forum of the New Part-
nership for Africa's Development (NEPAD), said he hoped that re-
newed interest to support science in Africa by industrialised
countries would lead to concrete action, and not just vague po-
litical commitments.
The meeting was organised jointly by British and Canadian agen-
cies. To view the content, please go to
