AFRO-NETS> Nomination for Jonathan Mann Award (3)

Nomination for Jonathan Mann Award (3)
--------------------------------------

I wish to thank all those who supported my nomination of the late Dr.
Matthew Lukwiya for the above award. I was really encouraged by the
wholehearted support from around the world, as well as from Uganda.

Indeed I was much elated to learn even more about his dedication and
high level of professional competence in many areas, including a major
role in combating the AIDS epidemic in the early '80s in Northern
Uganda.

Among those who first seconded my proposal were two eminent Canadian
Professors of Paediatrics and Public Health, who taught at Makerere and
also worked with Matthew in Lacor Hospital; a WHO expert and eminent
Professor at the University of Szeged Medical School, Hungary ("an old
Makererean"); Director of a Laboratory of Epidemiology in Italy; as
well as the President of the Uganda Medical Association. Others in-
cluded messages of support from individuals working with INTRAH, and in
Uganda another person working with the DISH (Delivery of Improved Ser-
vices for Health) Project.

I do hope that with that seemingly overwhelming support, the Ugandan
Ministry of Health officials will add their blessing to this humble
idea.

Thank you and God bless you.
