HIV/AIDS Care and Support Advisor

Save the Children, the leading independent organization creating real and lasting change for children in need in the US and around the world, has an immediate opening for an ADVISOR, CARE and SUPPORT, HIV/AIDS to provide leadership and support for strengthening and expanding the health content of HIV/AIDS programs, and integrating HIV content into Health programs. This position works through the office of HIV/AIDS and the Department of Health & Nutrition, Child Health unit and will focus on advancing comprehensive prevention of mother to child transmission and pediatric HIV, and the content and quality of care and support for those living with HIV/AIDS with the overall aim of improving health outcomes. This will include the strengthening of community and home based care, advancing systems to support positive living, and development, testing and documentation of strategies to better link community support systems with basic health and comprehensive HIV/AIDS related treatment. It will also include some focus on prevention. S/he will play a leadership role in advancing family centered care, and modeling approaches to specifically reach HIV+ children, youth and families. This role will also focus on building strong community strategies and mechanisms for improving uptake, delivery and follow-up for PMTCT for HIV mothers and HIV-exposed newborns, working closely with HIV team members, MNCH staff and country offices
The HIV/AIDS Advisor is a key resource to the HIV office and the agency overall, and contributes to the development of agency strategy and new programs and helps improve the technical capacity of staff and field-based partners. S/he will work closely with both Health and HIV/AIDS staff of global, regional and country offices, and will represent the agency in technical and policy meetings and with donors.
MD, PhD, MPH or equivalent and 10 years of experience with increasing responsibilities for development and support of international health and HIV/AIDS programs. Minimum of 7-10 years field experience supporting HIV/AIDS prevention, care and support programs, preferably in Africa. Up to date knowledge of USAID / PEPFAR funding and reporting requirements. Experience in designing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating HIV/AIDS programs essential.
Knowledge of state-of-the-art approaches for prevention, care and support of people living with HIV/AIDS. Proven ability to develop and support HIV/AIDS programs. Knowledge of current thinking on community and home based care, support for positive living, increasing access to treatment and adherence, and family centered care. Ability to articulate community strategies for improved update and follow-up for PMTCT, and community case finding and case management for pediatric HIV. Candidate will bring understanding of maternal, newborn, child health and primary health care systems as well as those for HIV/AIDS care, support and treatment. Program evaluation and indicator development, and in-depth understanding of related challenges. Experience in designing operations research desirable. Ability to work well independently and in team situations. Excellent written and verbal English language skills. Training and facilitation skills required. Excellent computer skills and ability to travel internationally 30-40%
