[afro-nets] Nuffield Centre Short Courses for 2014

The Nuffield Centre for International Health, LIHS, University of Leeds, are holding two short courses in Leeds this summer. Please see details below:

Health Financing & Resource Allocation (2 week course)
16 - 27 June 2014

Course overview
Governments in all countries are taking difficult decisions about how much funding is spent on health. Economic recession in many parts of the world has added to the need to look carefully at the way resources are allocated and which groups benefit from spending. Increasingly, it is realised that financing policy must look at the demand as well as the supply side when developing policy to stimulate individual access to services. These issues are the focus of a short course offered by the Nuffield Centre for International Health & Development. The course will focus on equitable and efficient ways of obtaining and allocating resources for health care services. It aims to equip participants with a set of analytical tools designed to improve allocation and planning decisions. It will focus on topics of health economics, financing and planning as applied to health systems in low and middle income countries.

Who should apply?
The course is aimed at policy makers and planners involved in making or explaining resource allocation and planning decisions. This includes staff from national ministries of health, regional/district health departments, health facilities, non-government organisations, donor agencies and those working in health insurance and other similar schemes.

Monitoring & Evaluation of Health Programmes (1 week course)
30 June - 5 July 2014

Course overview
This course explores a critical yet under-valued component of successful health programmes; monitoring and evaluation. Using case studies, you will learn how to develop a logical framework for health programme planning including; implementation, monitoring and evaluation, the process of setting indicators and standards, and interpreting and using results from the process of monitoring and evaluation.

Who should apply?
The course is aimed at health programme managers and those involved in the implementation of health intervention programmes, as well as those involved in managing health systems programmes. This will include staff from international organisations working in health, national ministries of health, regional/district health authorities, non-governmental organisations, training and research institutions, and donor agencies with a specific interest in supporting health programmes.
