Health Economics and Financing Programme
The Health Economics and Financing Programme is one of the world's
leading groups undertaking applied health economics research in de-
veloping countries. It receives a research programme grant from the
UK Department for International Development, as well as research
grants from a number of other research funding bodies. We are seeking
to recruit highly motivated and able health economists to join our
existing group of 20 staff. Up to two posts are available at lec-
turer/senior lecturer level, and one or more research fellow posts.
Successful applicants will be seeking to develop or expand their re-
search career, and at the lecturer level and above should have ex-
perience of working in developing countries. These posts are for 3
years.

Bill and Melinda Gates Malaria Programme
The School was recently awarded a US$ 40 million grant from the Bill
and Melinda Gates Foundation, to further its work on malaria. This is
one of the biggest grants ever given to a UK university. Academic ap-
pointments to be made include a senior lectureship in health econom-
ics, which will be joint between the Malaria Programme and the Health
Economics and Financing Programme. A conferred title may be sought
for an appropriately-qualified candidate. The closing date for appli-
cations is 20 October 2000.
The Senior Lecturer/Lecturer scale is GBP 19,666 to GBP 38,098 de-
pending on experience, and the research fellow scale GBP 18,714 - GBP
26,906 (all salary levels under review). Further particulars of the
