This third edition of Project Profiles describes projects whose
diversity demonstrates USAID's increasing commitment to meeting
the wide variety of needs of affected children and youth. By

Children on the Brink 2002: A Joint Report on Orphan Estimates
and Program Strategies

The landmark document, "Children on the Brink", presents the
most comprehensive statistics to date on the historical, current
and projected number of children orphaned by HIV/AIDS. This re-
port represents a unique collaboration between USAID, UNICEF and
UNAIDS, and contains statistics from 88 countries, analysis of
trends found in those statistics, and strategies and principles
based on best practices and lessons learned for helping children
made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS.

A Family is for a Lifetime: A Discussion of the Need for Family
Care for Children Impacted by AIDS and Annotated Bibliography,
2003

The discussion found in the first part of this document is based
on a review of approximately 80 documents related to the provi-
sion of care for children lacking family care in countries most
affected by HIV/AIDS. The annotated bibliography and the discus-
sion evolved from a desire of several organizations concerned
with children orphaned by HIV/AIDS to provide a firm conceptual
basis for their work.

Orphans and Vulnerable Children in India: Report on Town Hall
Meeting, 2003

This report details a meeting focused on understanding the needs
