RFI: Child Protection and Child Rights (3)
------------------------------------------

Dear Beatrice and All,

Hello, I am copying this to some individuals who have studied
these issues and might be of help, including one who is in Nai-
robi right now at the ICASA. Eric Friedman of Physicians for Hu-
man Rights, who worked with colleagues at Yale Law School in 2002
on a model-legislation project centring on the human-rights of
women and children affected by HIV/AIDS, is at:
mailto:efriedman@phrusa.org , and he and his colleagues, includ-
ing Elizabeth Tyler Crone (also cc'd), did extensive research
into this subject and gathered info from various African coun-
tries to do so. I hope he sees this note and will contact you
while he is there! There is also a French expert, and lawyer with
the European Court of Human Rights - Magali Bottmer - who I will
also cc, as she may be of help.

There is also CRIN -- Child Rights International Network -- which
has a huge number of organisations you can contact, and possibly
materials on this subject specifically. They are at:
http://www.crin.org , and check out the Children's Rights Divi-
sion of Human Rights Watch, which has put out several reports on
related subjects, including the invaluable "Kenya in the Shadow
of Death: HIV/AIDS and Child Rights in Kenya". The online news
source, All Africa, is also excellent, as is IRIN Plus News, and
they are at http://www.allafrica.com and http://www.irinnews.org

There is also FIDA/Kenya (International Federation of Women Law-
yers-Kenya), which has an excellent website, and they might know
of laws and legislation in other African countries. They are at
http://www.fidakenya.org

Hope this is helpful, and I may be able to come up with other
sources as needed. Many thanks and all best wishes,

Janet Feldman, Director
KAIPPG/International
