RFI: Female Genital Schistosomiasis
-----------------------------------

Dear colleagues,

preparing a broschure about female genital schistosomaisis I would
appreciate to receive information about this disease entity.

Gynaecologists and pathologists from endemic countries have reported
about schistosomiasis affecting the ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus,
cervix, vagina and vulva. The literature is not abundant and pub-
lished in journals of different disciplines over decades.

Epidemiological studies, which have been carried out in Niger, Ma-
lawi, Madagascar and Tanzania, have shown that in 33% up to 75% of
the women living in an endemic area genital schistosomiasis over the
lower genital tract is diagnosed. In Tanzania we could show that
genital schistosomiasis of the cervix is associated with lesions such
as sandy patches, erosions and edema.

I am interested to get information from colleagues from endemic ar-
eas:
* Have you seen cases of genital schistosomiasis?
* Which organs are mainly affected?

I would be most grateful, if you could give me this information:
