RFI: Health Information System (2)
----------------------------------
Dear Mr. Abicht:
I noted your query with interest, and would be interested in learning
what you may find. I'm with the Santech Institute, an American health
care technology company based around a software application that al-
lows health systems to optimize their resources in order to provide
quality care for more people at lower costs. We are currently consid-
ering a project in Africa focusing on HIV/AIDS. (More information can
be found at our website:
http://www.santech.org
Although you may be familiar with these resources, here are a few
that spring to mind in regards to your question:
- Cisco Systems, Inc., has done HIS work in Egypt and is considering
projects in South Africa and elsewhere.
- Healthnet Africa is a subset of the Satellife Project
(http://www.healthnet.org/hnet/africa.html)
- Next June, there's a conference in Dallas which includes a track on
information systems in Africa (not limited to health care)
- At Ohio State University, Ms. Egondu (Ego) Omyejekwe works on a
project involving using the internet to provide medical training in
Africa, and this year Ohio State cosponsored an African Healthcare
Telematics Conference (http://www.osu.edu/org/awognet/aht/)
Coincidentally, I was in Chicago two weeks ago and visited the Jane
Addams museum at the U of I campus.
I hope some of this is helpful. Good luck with your project - I'd be
interested in hearing what other suggestions you receive.
Best Regards,
Bert Brandenburg
