RFI: Names and Photos on Malaria (2)
------------------------------------
Dear Colleagues
Paul Driessen's efforts in Washington to help get the attention
of US legislators is very laudable, and I heartily endorse his
effort to collect some names and photos of children who have
died of malaria from around the world so that the legislators
have 'props' for their presentations.
The issue of malaria has been very low key for decades in Wash-
ington and in the relief and development community as a whole...
but it has been getting more and more center stage during the
past year. Paul Driessen's approach to get the support of the
Washinton legislators is a very useful piece of the puzzle.
The Transparency and Accountability Network also has an interest
in all of this. We are concerned that the talk in Washington
gets converted into practical activities on the ground around
the world and that there is tangible progress towards getting
rid of mosquitoes and malaria in the most economically sound
manner. They say money talks, but money well spent can do far
more, it can actually get the job done.
Please help get the names and pictures.
And also, for Christians this is a wonderful and festive time of
the year... but it is also a time of the year when we should
also think of those less fortunate. In this spirit I wish all my
friends and colleagues best wishes for the Christmas season and
for the New Year.
Sincerely,
Peter Burgess
