Staging Posts (35)
------------------
Dear Tom and colleagues on AFRO-NETS,
In my view, Helga's message has not even a hint of 'fear of sharing
knowledge'. Quite the contrary, her goal is to improve access to knowl-
edge and she eloquently and concisely illustrates reality based on a
wealth of personal experience.
By the way, I feel some of the contributions titled 'Staging Posts'
have not really been about Staging Posts at all. The term as originally
presented has to do with the *complementarity* of electronic and print
media. More specifically, with models of electronic-print chaining
(perhaps involving WHO and local publishers) to improve distribution of
essential information to district healthcare workers in resource poor
countries.
From Tom's message, he appears to be moving in the wider arena of 'ac-
cess to IT for the general public'. Though there may be contributions
from this arena that are relevant to models of the Staging Posts, it is
a *different* discussion, and should be titled appropriately.
Lastly, the concept of 'Staging Posts' as described above has generated
a lot of interest among participants at the Health Information Forum
(see http://www.oneworld.org/inasp ). We are planning to explore this
further in a dedicated Forum 'Action Group', which will be launched
over the summer. If anyone would like to go on the Health Information
Forum e-mail list for further information, please contact us at INASP-
Health.
Best wishes,
