Study of Gender issues
----------------------

Dear Colleagues,

The Health Systems Research (HSR) Unit of the Mauritius Institute of Health
is presently developing a study proposal on gender influence on
decision-making at household level.

The specific objectives are:

i) to determine the existing patterns of decision-making at household
level;

ii) to explore from the perspective of both sexes the perceptions and
attitudes towards gender equality, gender roles and relations in the
household decision-making process;

iii) to identify forces driving and restraining women's participation in
the decision-making.

Methodology:

Focus group discussion with both male and female participants.

The results will be used to develop advocacy materials to address male
attitudes towards women empowerment and their long-term strategic gender
needs. The HSR unit would like to be informed on any research work done on
the above topic with details on methodology and results. Comments and
suggestions on the study proposal are also welcome.

Thanks,

P. Burhoo
