Telemedicine and village pay phones
-----------------------------------
Dear colleagues,
The CHANGE Project is a newly-funded USAID co-operative agreement de-
signed to develop and apply new, state-of-the-art techniques for behav-
iour change that will increase the impact, sustainability, scale and
cost-effectiveness of interventions in child health, maternal health,
and nutrition. CHANGE is designed to develop and apply innovative new
tools and approaches drawn from the full range of disciplines in the
field of applied behaviour change to help programs close "knowledge-
behaviour" gaps and address behaviour change at many levels. Some of
the new approaches being developed and applied by CHANGE include appli-
cation of leading edge technologies in media and communication.
We are looking into developing support health systems that would in-
clude villager or urban tele-centers that would be perhaps based in a
clinic or appropriate institution and serve as a point of communication
for not only health activities such as telemedicine but also for pri-
vate e-mail, referrals, feedback etc. The communication points would
also perhaps serve as an access to telecommunication services. This ac-
tivity could also be an income generation activity.
I would be very interested to hear of any experiences that people may
of have with similar activities within the African context.
Thanks
Benedict Tisa
