Tuberculosis in South Africa (3)
--------------------------------

The problem of the SA TB history is that the cause for the very high
rates are not well described. In the part of SA with highest rates,
HIV is lowest, but alcohol, tobacco use and overcrowding are problems
and have been for 30 years. The solutions thus MAY lie in tackling
POSSIBLE determinants, but WILL reduce rates through good drug therapy.
i.e. the biomedical approach is most cost-effective...the only problem
is that for DOTS to work it needs almost police-type action..something
     SA no longer accepts (appropriately).
