Using Performance-Based Payments to Improve Health Programs
-----------------------------------------------------------

Management Sciences for Health publishes a "performance-based pay-
ments" issue of The Manager!

Titled "Using Performance-Based Payments to Improve Health Programs,"
this edition of MSH's award-winning quarterly publication The Manager
presents a system for funding health services that is tied to program
performance. Linking the payment of funds with results is a powerful
strategy that funding organizations can use to help service-providing
organizations become accountable for achieving program goals. Experi-
ence shows that collaborative partnerships between payers and ser-
vice-providing organizations can contribute to program success, as
illustrated in Working Solutions from the Philippines and Haiti. The
accompanying case scenario "Matangol Province Initiates a Perform-
ance-Based Payment Plan" may be used for staff development and train-
ing.

Published quarterly, The Manager is a continuing education management
publication from MSH. Each issue presents in-depth discussions of
management strategies for improving health and family planning ser-
vices.
