E-DRUG 1st ASIAN COURSE ON PROBLEM-BASED PHARMACOTHERAPY SECOND
  ANNOUNCEMENT

The first Asian training course on problem-based pharmacotherapy will be
held from October 6th-14th 1999 (inclusive) in Manila, Philippines. It is
being organised jointly by members of the medical faculty of the University
of Santo Tomo, Metro Manila, and the WHO Collaborating Centre for Teaching
and Training in Rational Pharmacotherapy at the School of Population Health
Sciences, the University of Newcastle, Australia.

The course is designed primarily for teachers of pharmacotherapy working in
undergraduate or postgraduate settings: medical schools, pharmacy schools,
teaching hospitals etc. The course aims to provide practical instruction
in, and experience of a problembased approach to pharmacotherapy teaching.
The course will be based on the WHO "Guide to Good Prescribing" manual.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
During the course participants will:
. experience the problembased approach to pharmacotherapy teaching
. learn to act as facilitators of smallgroup, problembased learning in
practical pharmacotherapy
. develop teaching/learning materials suitable for use in their own
teaching environment
. become familiar with modern educational strategies available for course
development, student assessment, and course and tutor evaluation
. develop their own targets and objectives for introducing the problembased
approach to pharmacotherapy teaching in their local context.

October 6-14 th 1999 inclusive

Eugenio Lopez Conference Centre
Approximately 1 hour from Manila, the Philippines

ACCOMMODATION
Hotel accommodation at the conference centre

FEES
Tuition, accommodation, meals for the duration of the course, and transfers
to and from the airport: $US2500

Suggested daily allowance for miscellaneous expenses: $US100/week
Travel costs are not included. Applicants must find their own sponsors.

NUMBERS
To achieve the maximum opportunities for small group work and interactive
learning the course will be limited to 30 participants. If demand exceeds
available places, preference will be given to teachers working in the
AsiaPacific region.
LANGUAGE
The working language of the course will be English.

Applications are invited from teachers of undergraduate or postgraduate
health professionals who would like to explore a problembased approach to
rational pharmacotherapy.
