E-DRUG: Adverse Drug Reactions (ADR) Reporting by Patients (3)
--------------------------------------------------------------
In connection with this, E-Druggers may be interested in Larry Kramer's
planned project concerned with AIDS patient reporting. An article in the
December POZ (Knowledge = Power,
http://www.thebody.com/poz/gazette/12_98/knowledge.html )
describes his plans. Following is a brief abstract:
Larry Kramer has found a way to electronically harness the great energy
AIDS activists. His HIV Treatment Data Project will be a website that
records, analyzes and explains the clinical data of thousands of People
with AIDS (PWAs). PWAs worldwide will key their drug regimens, lab
reports and health conditions into an anonymous database. Although self-
reported data is not scientifically acceptable, the tabulated results
could indicate general trends, detect side effects and guide patients
toward informed decisions. Conversely, it could sink into a morass of
invalid data.
Four test sites are underway in New York and California, but it'll be
some time before the public can participate.
