[e-drug] Amoxiclav potassium suspension- stability

E-DRUG: Amoxiclav potassium suspension- stability
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear colleagues

Do the majority of this team believe in continued supply of
amoxicillin-clavulanic acid potassium suspension in our public health facilities?

I strongly think that it is high time this highly thermolabile product is
discontinued. The issue is even made complex with the low % fridge ownership by our clients and the situation can be made worse by facilities that reconstitute
the medicine in the pharmacy.

We have have checked, and we bear witness that this medicine can often not survive day one, the colour then turns from white/cream sweet to brown/black bitter.

This issue is important from the perspective of drug resistance, morbidity, mortality
and toxicology (clavulanic acid).

I believe we should explore dispersible tabs as we stick to amoxil for now.

Let us think of this and possible options as it is our responsibility to
help the poor children who have been consuming suboptimal medicines.
